Coded by me, David Lacey - I thought it would be cool to be able to visualise TV reception data in 3D, as topology greatly effects terrestrial radio transmission.
Also I hope this website, can be useful to those looking to receive clear, strong and interference free broadcast TV in Australia.
In appreciation for all the hard work that's gone into broadcast Television around Australia and in particular to thank those at the ACMA.
The original government mySwitch website was launched in 2008 by the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) providing information on digital television reception across Australia and in preparation of the switchover from analogue to digital television.
It was updated as a part of a channel restack in Australia in 2013, often referred to as the "Digital Dividend," involving reallocating and retuning digital TV channels to free up spectrum for other services, like mobile broadband.
This involved changing frequencies of approximately 1,250 digital TV channels across 373 transmission sites, with additional adjustments at 53 more sites, resulting in a total of 426 affected sites requiring around 346,000 hours of work.
A huge undertaking.
The mySwitch website was well known as the most important resource in Australia to help users check the quality of their TV reception and find recommended TV transmitters for their location.
Although the mySwitch coverage information was last updated in 2017, I believe in the future of broadcast television as a valuable technology, this website helps users find information about transmitters and signal quality in their area.
The coverage information and transmitter data is taken from publicly available information data on the ACMA website and to my knowledge as of July 2024 is up-to-date.
While I've tried to keep this map as accurate as possible there may be some minor differences to the current situation.
